A new development has emerged involving Ibrahima Konate’s contract coming to an end at Liverpool, with a renewed hope in the air that the Frenchman will pen an extension.

Liverpool are crying out for some good news at this point, with the mood at Anfield at the moment despondent.

Indeed, Mohamed Salah’s final months as a Reds player look as if they will be depressing, rather than a memorable swansong, with the Egyptian heartbreakingly missing a penalty during Liverpool’s recent 4-0 defeat at Manchester City which summed up his final campaign in Red.

Moreover, the uncertainty over Arne Slot’s future in the dug-out won’t have raised the optimism levels, with several former Liverpool figures – such as Jermaine Pennant calling for the Premier League title winner to be sacked.

Ibrahima Konate could also be heading for the exit door if he can’t agree a new contract, to further pile up the misery.

While he endured a difficult match at the Etihad last time out, it would be a shame to see the French colossus walk away from Merseyside as a free agent in the summer, as he has grabbed two goals this season as a regular under the Dutchman.

Thankfully, that desperately needed good news could soon be on the horizon, as a positive development has come to the surface, regarding Konate’s Liverpool future, post the disastrous season currently unfolding.

New development surrounding Konate contract

It has long been rumoured that Konate might swap Merseyside for Real Madrid this approaching summer.

It does make sense as to why Los Blancos would be targeting the 26-year-old colossus, as they’d be winning a determined defender, who is known to be a trophy winner at Anfield, on a free transfer.

This shrewd move might not be on the cards, after all, as French outlet L’Equipe has reported that negotiations have “intensified in recent months” between the Reds and Konate, which has left them in a position which has “never been closer to an agreement.”

With the report concluding that “only a few details remain to be ironed out”, it does read as if Liverpool has made gigantic strides forward in attempting to tie down their long-standing servant to a new deal.

At one stage, it looked as if talks were going to be in a perpetual deadlock.

Now, with Konate wanting to be certain about his future before the approaching World Cup, the likeliest outcome looks as if it will be that the ex-RB Leipzig man will be staying put, rather than moving out to Spain.

Liverpool FC Contract Expiry Dates (First Team):

Player Position Age Contract Expiry
Mohamed Salah RW 33 June 2026
Ibrahima Konate CB 26 June 2026
Andy Robertson LB 32 June 2026
Freddie Woodman GK 29 June 2026
Rhys Williams CB 25 June 2026
Vitezslav Jaros GK 24 June 2026

With Salah deciding to leave, and Konate’s future remaining in limbo, it will be intriguing to see what happens with the likes of Andy Robertson, as the loyal Liverpool servant’s contract also comes to a close in June.

Slot and Co. might suddenly accelerate into motion, on the contract front, if they can get a new deal over the line for the 6-foot-4 centre-back, as next season’s squad begins to slowly take shape.
