- Liverpool hierarchy have zeroed in on a Mohamed Salah replacement
- The Reds have are in ‘concrete talks’ with the player’s representatives
- There is competition from PSG
Liverpool have identified their ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah and are already in talks over a summer transfer.
Mohamed Salah announced in March that he will leave the Reds at the end of the season despite his contract running until 2027.
It appears that all parties have decided that this is the right time for the Egypt international to move on.
The former Chelsea ace has struggled with form this season, bagging 12 goals and nine assists in 38 appearances across all competitions, which, although not bad, is below-par by his usual standards.
It is safe to say that Salah has been crucial to Liverpool’s success over the last nine years, and his departure is no doubt going to leave a gaping hole in the squad.
This is why the Reds hierarchy must be careful with who they sign to replace the 33-year-old.
Liverpool think tank green light Yan Diomande transfer
Arne Slot’s side have been linked with several attackers, including Bazoumana Toure of Hoffenheim, since Salah announced his departure.
However, it appears the Anfield outfit have already zeroed in on RB Leipzig ace Yan Diomande.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Diomande has now been identified as the top target to replace the Egyptian.
The Sky Deutschland reporter added that the Liverpool hierarchy have already approved a move for the Ivorian ahead of the summer.
The Reds are already in ‘concrete talks’ with Roc Nation, who recently came on board as the 19-year-old’s new agents.
However, there is still no agreement between the two parties, meaning club-to-club negotiations have yet to start.
Leipzig, for their part, are keen to retain Diomande’s services, with plans in place to increase his salary and offer him a new contract.
Meanwhile, Liverpool need to be wary of Paris Saint-Germain, who have also held a meeting with the teenager’s agents.
Why Diomande would be perfect fit at Anfield?
Diomande has only been at Leipzig since last summer, but has rapidly become one of the most exciting attacking prospects in football.
He has dribbled his way onto the transfer wishlists of some of the biggest European clubs, including Arsenal.
The winger has bagged 13 goals and eight assists in 32 appearances across all competitions for Leipzig this season.
While he is known for his elite dribbling and blistering pace, the teenager has gained a reputation for combining his attacking output with intense defensive work.
The Reds have been generous about Salah and his defensive contributions in recent years, but it appears they are keen to bring in someone willing to contribute wholeheartedly on both ends of the pitch.
Although Diomande is right-footed and primarily a left winger, his two-footedness has caught the eyes of many.
That means he would be easily able to take Salah’s spot on the right wing at Liverpool.
